December to March: the classic season
Sunny days, low humidity, calm sea, and temperatures of 27 to 31 degrees. It's whale season and also the busiest time of year: if you're traveling during these months, book several weeks ahead, especially around Christmas, New Year's, and February.
April and May: the best balance
The dry weather continues, there are fewer people than in winter, and rates drop. These are probably the best months for anyone who wants guaranteed sun without the high-season crowds. Semana Santa is the exception: it fills up, so book early.
June to October: green, humid, and affordable
Rainy season arrives. It almost always rains in the afternoon or at night, and mornings dawn clear, with the mountains intensely green. It's hot and humid, but it's the season with the best prices and a more relaxed city. September is the rainiest month.
October and November: the city wakes up
The rain ends, the landscape stays green, the sea is warm, and the cultural calendar kicks off: Day of the Dead in late October, festivals, and the arrival of the first snowbirds. It's one of the best windows of the year to travel.
