A neighborhood made for walking
The Zona Romántica is flat, tree-lined, and compact: you can head out early for a walk along Olas Altas, follow the Río Cuale boardwalk, and be back before the sun gets strong. Parque Lázaro Cárdenas, a six-minute walk from the hotel, is where the neighborhood dogs usually meet up in the afternoon.
Beaches and timing
The beach is best enjoyed with your dog early in the morning or in the late afternoon, when the sand is cool and there are fewer people. Bring water, avoid midday, and rinse their paws when you get back: salt and hot sand are usually the only things that bother them.
Where to eat with your dog
Many of the cafés and restaurants on Olas Altas and Basilio Badillo have terraces and welcome well-behaved leashed dogs. The neighborhood's unwritten rule is simple: ask when you arrive, choose a table at the edge, and ask for a water bowl, they'll often bring one without you even mentioning it.
Before you travel: the practical stuff
Bring an up-to-date vaccination record, a collar with an ID tag, a short leash for busy streets, their usual food, and a bed or blanket that smells like home. Locate a nearby vet on your first day; the Zona Romántica has several with emergency service.
